Is Hollywood running out of original ideas? This is the question that comes up in too many conversations these days when referring to the current cinema circuit. Of course, one can’t help but wonder if Hollywood has turned into a big bad sequel and remake machine, and whether they are slowly but surely starting to run out of original ideas.
When looking at recent releases I do find myself letting out the unintentional yawn… With films such as Resident Evil 6, Transformers 4 and Dolphin Tale 2, it does seem to be a battle of the sequels, with the one being as watered down as the next. How many times does a dolphin need to lose its tail before Hollywood draws the line and decides enough is enough.
Apart from these, we can also look forward to films such as Tetris and Peeps. Yes, that’s right the 80’s classic, building blocks video game will soon be coming to big screens near you. How or why, I am not sure and what would the story be, well even the trailer(please see below) couldn’t quite clear things up for me. And well don’t get me started on Peeps. Yes, that’s right, Peeps, you know, those little gooey Easter treats. Apparently Adam Rifkin bought the rights to these delicious little chics and will soon be turning them into the next big holiday blockbuster.
Has Hollywood now finally become the big, green, money hungry, movie making empire we have always feared them to be? Have they finally stopped caring about us, the loyal movie goers. Or on the other hand, are they just giving us exactly what we want. Let’s face it, Saw X might not have been my cup of tea, but I will definitely be at that Taken 3 premiere, not to mention the Ninja Turtle remake and then, well yes, I might just show up for Tetris as well, because lets face it, as a self proclaimed Tetris champion, I must admit I might just be the tad curious…
My point being, as long as there is a market for it, I guess Hollywood will keep on making it, and you can be sure that I will most likely keep on supporting it.
